"Salumpwet Tatlohan" 3 seater

Good day to all,

I would like to share with you guys this three seater version of my Salumpwet http://lumberjocks.com/projects/44983
The seat is gouged out of a 4” thick X 20” width X 6’ narra slab. The legs and stretchers are of dungon ( iron wood). The bottom seat stretcher is part of the carved seat, integrated and carved from the same slab of narra. Everything is one piece at the bottom. The back rest slats are steam bent kamagong ( ebony) while the crown is of Saplungan.

This three seater is 8 years old and has ever since been a part of our Tahanan ( Home). It beckons guests to sit on it when they enter my lanai. It is also the same seat on my profile picture.

Have a great day guys!

"Idlipan" Daybed

Good day fellow LJs,,

This daybed was designed to be viewed from all angles. The ebony and amboyna burl inlays extend all around bed. The backrest is made from various species of reclaimed wood. The bed frame is from a 2” x 12” yakal beam and the slats are made from ipil. The legs are molave and the bracing is balayong.

It always feels great designing a piece for a particular space in a home and seeing the final work complete the space.

Have a great weekend guys!

"Diwata III"

This is my third “Diwata” http://lumberjocks.com/projects/74538 I made it narrower and taller than than the last two. I also did the sides in slats and incorporated the gouged design to it.
The door handles are balayong wood and are sculpted from the door frame. I offset them so the slats peer through them. I was asked several times if I sculpt a solid blank of wood and slice it up fro the door slats. The slats are milled individually then dowelled through and through with Iron wood. I then place spacers in-between the slats before I start sculpting them.
The two top drawers are sculpted from balayong. The top is balayong with curly molave breadboards. Legs are kamagong (ebony) while the backing is in ipil.

The cabinet has 2 shelves.

Dimensions: H 50” W 40” D 22”

Thanks for taking time to view my works.

Happy Halloween!

"Seksing Sekretarya ll" Work Desk

Finished another desk before visiting the kids for the holiday season. I also had the opportunity to have better photos taken of it for proper documentation.

I changed the drawer pulls on this piece by making it wider. I also removed the drawer pulls for the secret drawers underneath.
Woods used:

top: balayong
breadboards: molave
drawer fronts; molave
drawer pulls: kamagong
legs ipil:
stretchers: molave and narra

All dowels are raised and rounded off. All woods used are reclaimed as with all my projects.

Have a great weekend guys!

Merry Christmas!!!

Sharing with you a sculpture i recently did.
I normally incorporate my sculptures with my furniture (functional sculptures). At least once a year, I work on free form sculptures to hone my senses on the organic flow of lines for future designs. I’ve had this piece of spalted narra lying around for ages. I thought I would play around with it and feel what the wood’s soul would let me work it. It was a tough wood to sculpt but the end result was well worth it.

The sculpture measures:

Ht 16”
W 26”
D 16”

The seat is hand gouged (seat and bottom) from a 4” thick narra slab. All dowels are raised and rounded off. I wanted the piece to be more tactile.

All woods used are reclaimed as with all of my projects.

Seksing Sekretarya III

Hi fellow LJ’s,
It’s been a while since I last posted a project. Here’s a desk I’ve just completed and is a twist on my previous “Seksing Sekretarya” http://lumberjocks.com/projects/93550 I wanted to see how the piece would look with sculpted drawers. Your comments will be helpful for future desks which I am hoping to build.

Top is made from Balayong. Drawers are molave, legs are ipil, Stretchers are molave and dungon Thank you and have a nice day!

Good day fellow LJs,

This chair was designed, built and named after my eldest daughter. The seat is carved from a single slab of ipil. The seat is hand gouged and so with the bottom side. The legs are sculpted from molave (Philippine teak) while the stretchers are dungon (iron wood). The crown is curly molave and the arm rests are also fashioned from ipil. The back splat is made from laminates of ebony. The back rest flexes as with some of chairs that I designed. So far it is one of my most comfortable chairs. Having a short back rest, it supports and flexes right around your lumbar area.
All woods used in this chair are reclaimed as with all of my projects.

Have a fantastic weekend guys!

Workbench

I finally built myself a new workbench. I always wanted to build one but something always got in the way… Work. :) My last one served me well but was more of huge table with just a side vise.

For the top, I used 2×6 saplungan which is very dense and heavy. The dogs (pegs) are dungon (ironwood)as well as the side and end vise jaws. I also added three dogs on the end vise which I think will help a lot when working with cabinet doors that I sculpt. The legs are 5 1/2×5 1/2 yakal and the stretchers are also saplungan. The table weighs 400+ lbs. Maybe sometime in the future I’ll be putting drawers underneath for some of my tools

I just started using this bench today crafting a new smoothing plane. I love my new table!!! just wanted to share with you guys. Have a great weekend!

Katam (smoothing plane)

I just finished my new smoothing plane and would like to share the photos with you guys. I used a block of Aranga wood i had lying around for this project. The block was tough to work on that I probably spent more time honing my chisels than cutting the slot for the blade and lock. I sculpted the palm rest from balayong wood and was easier to work on. The blade was repurposed from a worn down Blu-mol hacksaw blade. These old blades make into the best plane blades I’ve ever used. The lock for the blade was cut, bent and polished from a 2” GI pipe.

The plane is 2-1/4” wide by 11 inches long.

Have a great weekend guys!

Guitar stand

This Guitar stand was commissioned by a client and I ended up building one for myself too. The ‘C arc and the bottom stand are steambent laminates of molave and ipIL wood. The base is also ipil. The body rest and the neck hold are both done in narra. I play the guitar but don’t read notes. I feel that the piece just seems to flow like a music note. Maybe that’s just me…

Have a great weekend guys!

Kape-lipit (table for two)

Good day fellow LJs,

It’s been a while since I posted a project and I just wanted to share with you guys this new piece I designed. This table literally has a twist in it. The main post is band sawn and sculpted from molave. The base is ipil and so is the top which measures 32” in diameter. It will sit alone in a tea room with two of my chairs. I think the twisted leg is enough to make it the focal point of the room. All woods used here are reclaimed as with all my projects. Your questions and comments are most welcome.

Thanks for viewing,

Tsek Meyt - Chess set

It’s been a while since I last posted a project. I just finished working on this chess table and set and would like to share it with you guys. The checks on the table are ebony and jackfruit. The border is made from balayong wood and inlayed with amboyna burl. The drawers are of saplungan with ebony drawer pulls. Legs are sculpted from molave while the base is also sculpted from ipil. The ebony and molave pieces took a month to sculpt. It took a while to complete the project but am more than happy with the outcome. Would love to hear your comments on this project. Have a great weekend fellow LJ’s!

Rajah chair high back (premium line)

Wanted to share with you guys one of my favorite chair designs. This one was done three weeks ago. Sorry for not posting more often.

The back rest of this chair flexes as with some of my chairs. I hatched the idea from the principle of the bow.
The backrest is laminated steambent balayong wood and goes through the seat to also function as the back leg. The seat is hand sculpted top and bottom from saray wood. Front legs are made from yakal. The stretchers are iron wood (dungon) I just love it when aesthetics, function (ergonomics) and structural soundness gel into one.

Have a great weekend guys!

Just finished two of this chair. The seat is hand gouged from a 4” thick Dao slab. The bottom stretchers are carved out from the same piece. The arm rests and crest rail are balayong wood. The back splat is steam bent laminated Philippine ebony (kamagong) and flexes when leaned on. The legs are ironwood (Dungon). I’ve built several of this in the past years but love the Dao wood seat on this.

All woods used are reclaimed as with all my projects.

Workbench

I built a new studio workbench for a Tail and chain drive vise I just recently ordered through my good brother in California. I was not happy with the end and side mount bench vise on my 2 year old workbench. The end vise was pretty okay but the side mounted one was too small for for what I need it to be. I also built this a foot longer than the old one.
All woods used for this bench are reclaimed as with all of my projects.
The top is stack laminated 2×4 saplungan. The jaw for the chain drive vise is balayong same as with the end cap. The condor tails for the end cap are well supported by two 1/2×6” stainless steel bolts capped with raised ebony caps. The 24” Lie-Nielsen chain vise is perfect when working on my sculpted face drawers. Bench dogs are kamagong (ebony). Legs are 4×4 supa. Bottom stretchers are Ipil and bottom shelf is narra. Tail vise is Benchcrafted. Total weight of the bench is over 250lbs.
